Arsenal are making a surprise signing-Jamie Vardy by meeting his release clause with a £20m bid. The Leicester City striker scored 24 goals season, just 1 less than Harry Kane who won the Golden Boot. The 29 year old striker played an important role in Leicester’s title winning campaign and won a spot in the England squad for the Euros.
The Gunners, who have already signed Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka, have been looking to sign a strong striker. They were in the chase to sign Juventus forward, Alavaro Morata before they triggered Vardy’s release clause with their bid.
Vardy has previously said in press conferences that he is committed to The Foxes and is not looking to leave the club, but will the interest of Arsenal pull him away from Leicester?
The Gunners do require a strong centre forward despite the presence of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, who haven’t had an exceptional season yet. Youngster, Alex Iwobi is also a part of the Arsenal side.
If Vardy becomes a part of the North London side, he would have good competition, the chance to test his abilities, and reach his full potential.
When the big clubs come calling, they might not come again. I think you go. You want to test yourself against the best and with better players. Technically, Arsenal are a better side than Leicester.
-Kevin Kilbane, Ex-Everton winger and football pundit
The question stands, will Vardy join Arsenal after a brilliant season with Leicester City?
