Manchester City sign Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £20m. The 25 year old German midfielder agreed on a four year contract with The Citizens. The highly rated midfielder is currently out with a dislocated knee and will miss the Euro 2016, but is expected to return at the beginning of September. He is the first signing of new manager, Pep Guardiola.
He was signed from Nuremburg by Jurgen Klopp in 2011 and soon became a very important part of the squad. He enjoyed two stellar seasons and scored in the 2013 Champion’s League final against Bayern, although Dortmund still lost that game.
The question is whether he will get a lot of play time in the midst of the other midfielders who are a part of the club. Players like Yaya Toure, David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, Fernando, Fernandinho, and Fabian Delph are all part of City’s first team central midfielders.
Can he rediscover the player he was 3-4 years ago? Will his susceptibility to long term injury be a hindrance in his Premier League career?
Will the German fit into the strong Manchester City squad? Will he make an impact in the Premier League in his debut season?
